Apple Vision Pro production has been sharply scaled back by Apple and its suppliers in recent months and could be suspended altogether by the end of 2024, according to a new report from The Information.
According to several people with direct knowledge of the headset’s supply chain, Apple reportedly began cutting down Vision Pro production in the summer of 2024. Vision Pro suppliers have reportedly produced enough components to assemble around 600,000 units of the headsets, and it is thought that the current inventory is adequate to cover Vision Pro’s demand into 2025.
Production of some parts was reportedly suspended as early as May, while others have parts in the tens of thousands lying around in warehouses waiting to be assembled into final units. Luxshare, Vision Pro’s main assembly partner, was informed by Apple that the headset’s production could be terminated by November.

At its peak, Luxshare was assembling around 2,000 Vision Pro units a day, with that figure recently plummeting to 1,000 as demand dwindles. However, Apple and Luxshare will be able to resume production again if needed as assembly lines won’t be dismantled.
The headset’s production halt is the latest sign that Apple is looking beyond the first-generation model, with a more affordable version reportedly set for a 2025 launch. To this effect, Apple has instructed its suppliers to be ready to build around 4 million units of the lower-end model over its entire lifespan, significantly higher than today’s headset.
