Apple will add support for 3D spatial photos and videos to be viewable on Vision Pro through Safari in a future visionOS update later this year, according to a new report from PetaPixel.
Currently, spatial photos and videos can only be viewed through Vision Pro’s Photos and Messages apps, and the content must be downloaded locally from emails or through AirDrop transfer. PetaPixel confirmed the imminent update in an interview with Della Huff, Product Manager at Apple, and Billy Sorrentino from the company’s Design Team.
Spatial photos and videos on the web will be viewable as normal 2D images when accessed from non-Vision Pro devices. Apple hopes this change will speed up the adoption of spatial media on Vision Pro as users will share spatial content with others over the web more easily than today.

The feature has received many updates over several visionOS releases. For example, visionOS 2 added the ability to transform 2D images into spatial photos with the press of a button. Several iPhone models can capture spatial media for viewing later on Vision Pro, including the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the entire iPhone 16 lineup.
