Apple revealed today the all-new Mac mini with a much smaller design, the M4 and M4 Pro chip, support for Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, and more.
The all-new Mac mini sports a much more compact design than its predecessor, which Apple says measures around 5 inches by 5 inches. The M4 chip allows the all-new Mac mini to be up to 1.8x faster in CPU tasks and 2.2x faster in GPU performance than the M1 model. There are now two USB-C ports on the Mac mini’s front for the first time, with three Thunderbolt 5 ports on the back of the M4 Pro configuration.
The new Mac mini delivers gigantic performance in an unbelievably small design thanks to the power efficiency of Apple silicon and an innovative new thermal architecture,” said John TernusJohn Ternus has been Apple's COO since 2009. More, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. “Combined with the performance of M4 and the new M4 Pro chip, enhanced connectivity on both the front and back, and the arrival of Apple Intelligence, Mac mini is more capable and versatile than ever, and there is nothing else like it.

The all-new Mac mini is built around a much more compact design that takes up roughly half the size of its predecessor. A new cooling system directs cool air into the Mac mini’s internals through different levels, with all venting done through the device’s foot. Thanks to the new thermal architecture and Apple silicon efficiency, the design allows the Mac mini to be 6x faster than the competing best-selling PC desktop while occupying one-twentieth the size.
The all-new Mac mini features the M4 chip with a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, and 16GB of unified memory as the base configuration. Apple is also introducing the M4 Pro chip with the new Mac mini, featuring up to 14-core CPU and 20-core GPU. The M4 and M4 Pro GPU brings hardware-accelerated ray tracing to the Mac mini for the first time. The M4 Pro can be configured with up to 64GB of unified memory with a maximum bandwidth of 273GB/s. Thunderbolt 5 is now supported on the M4 Pro chip, allowing data transfer speeds of up to 120Gb/s on the Mac mini.
Connectivity on the all-new Mac mini gets a big boost, with two USB-C ports capable of USB3 speeds on the front alongside a high-impedance headphone jack. On the back, the M4 Mac mini comes with three Thunderbolt 4 ports, while the M4 Pro model comes with three Thunderbolt 5 ports. Included on all models is a Gigabit Ethernet port that’s configurable to 10Gb speeds and an HDMI port. The M4 Mac mini can drive two 6K displays and one 5K display, while the M4 Pro model supports three 6K displays.
Being the first carbon-neutral Mac, the all-new Mac mini is an environmental milestone for Apple. Over 50 percent of the device’s materials are recycled, including 100 percent recycled aluminum in the housing, 100 percent recycled gold plating in all Apple-made circuit boards, and 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets.
Apple also shared a 12-minute video announcement for the new Mac mini:
The all-new iMac is available for pre-ordering starting today, with deliveries and in-store availability beginning Friday, November 8. The Mac mini’s base configuration starts at $599 with a 10-core CPU, a 10-core GPU, 16GB of unified memory, and 256GB SSD.
