Apple plans to introduce an in-house Wi-Fi chip capable of Wi-Fi 7 speeds on at least one model of the iPhone 17 next year, according to new information shared by the reliable Ming-Chi Kuo.
In a new post on X, Kuo states that Apple is set to lessen its reliance on Broadcom moving forward, which has been the Cupertino company’s main supplier for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips across most of its devices. This will kick off with the iPhone 17 in the second half of 2025 thanks to the custom-designed Wi-Fi 7 chip from Apple.
The purported Wi-Fi chip will be built using TSMC’s 7-nanometer node process, which Apple used in the past for the A12 Bionic chip. Apple’s in-house Wi-Fi ambitions will rapidly expand moving forward, with Kuo claiming that Apple will move all of its products to the new chip over the next three years.

The development is the latest step that Apple is taking to improve its vertical integration, lessening its reliance on external vendors and exercising more control over its supply chain. Custom-designed chips also introduce several benefits to consumers such as better efficiency and highly-optimised performance.
The iPhone 16 lineup is the first set of Apple devices to support Wi-Fi 7 speeds. However, the new M4 Macs that Apple announced this week are still limited to Wi-Fi 6E connectivity. In addition to the rumored Wi-Fi chip, Apple is also rumored to debut its custom 5G modem starting next year with the iPhone SE 4 and “iPhone 17 Slim.”
