The 2026 MacBook Pro will usher in a massive overhaul for the laptop in the form of a new thinner design, the M6 chip, and an OLED display, according to a new Bloomberg report today.
In the latest edition of the weekly Power On newsletter, it is said that Apple is preparing a “true overhaul” with the 2026 MacBook Pro. For one, Apple is working on a thinner design for the laptop that has its appearance remain unchanged since the M1 Pro and M1 Max models in October 2021. Apple originally wanted to release the new design for the 2025 refresh, but that won’t be the case after running into problems with the planned OLED display.
Several rumors in the past have claimed that Apple is working on an OLED display for a future MacBook Pro model over the next few years, and today’s report is another confirmation. An OLED panel would allow Apple to make the 2026 MacBook Pro’s display and front lid much thinner than what’s possible with mini-LED today while introducing superior contrast and lower power consumption.

The next-generation M6 chip could usher in significant performance and efficiency gains thanks to TSMC’s 2-nanometer process, the report reads. Apple is expected to stick with 3nm with next year’s A19 and M5 processors, bringing in modest speed gains. Nevertheless, last week‘s MacBook Pro models with the impressive M4 family of chips should provide plenty of performance for years to come.
