Apple plans to release Vision Pro 2 as soon as next year with an upgrade to the yet-to-be-announced M5 chip as the low-end headset faces another delay, according to esteemed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
In a new post on X today, Kuo claims that production of the more affordable Vision Pro model has been delayed beyond 2027. Most analysts were expecting Apple to release the low-end headset as soon as next year, so it’s unclear what forced Apple into such a severe delay. On the other hand, Apple could release Vision Pro 2 next year with the M5 chip, representing a considerable update over the current headset with the M2 processor first released in 2022.
Kuo predicts that Apple opted to delay the low-end Vision Pro model until it can come with convincing use cases. The company reportedly concluded that a lower price tag wouldn’t be enough to convince users to buy the headset, especially as Vision Pro continues to suffer from poor demand with production rumored to be suspended altogether soon.

The updated Vision Pro 2 headset might not include many upgrades beyond the new M5 processor, especially as the current M2 chip begins to show its age compared to the Mac. Apple upgraded the iMac, Mac mini, and MacBook Pro with the M4 chip last week, and it’s unlikely that the company would let its headset lag behind by several Apple silicon generations.
In all cases, Apple’s strategy for Vision Pro and the product lineup should become clearer as we move into 2025. One thing that seems certain is that Apple will release new Vision Pro hardware next year. However, analysts seem to disagree about whether it will be Vision Pro 2 or the long-rumored low-end headset.
