Apple has asked its suppliers to begin constructing new Apple Intelligence servers in Taiwan based on the M4 chip that could be deployed as soon as next year, according to a new Nikkei Asia report.
Apple reportedly instructed Foxconn to explore options to build Apple Intelligence servers in Taiwan in anticipation of increased demand for the Cupertino company’s AI features as their availability will expand next year. It remains to be seen if the new servers will be built around the base M4 chip or higher-end variants, including the anticipated M4 Ultra. As a reminder, current Apple Intelligence servers are based around the M2 Ultra released last year.
Apple Intelligence servers are also known as Private Cloud Compute, which Apple says are used for demanding AI requests that cannot be processed locally on-device. Apple has touted the privacy and security features of Private Cloud Compute as a selling point of Apple Intelligence as it never stores or exposes users’ data. Production software images of Private Cloud Compute are also public to cybersecurity researchers to assess the company’s claims and discover unknown vulnerabilities.
