Apple has reportedly delayed the mass production of its anticipated smart home display to the second half of 2025, reports the reliable Ming-Chi Kuo in a new post on Medium.
According to Kuo, Apple originally hoped to begin mass production of its smart home display by the first quarter of 2025. However, due to “software development” issues, the company has been forced to delay the device’s assembly timeline. Kuo now says that the device, referred to as a “display-equipped HomePod,” could begin production after WWDC 2025 and during the third quarter of the year.
The company’s smart home display was originally meant to launch this year. However, numerous problems have forced Apple to delay its release. Bloomberg recently stated that the device could finally be unveiled in March 2025. However, that no longer seems to be the case. The smart home device is expected to feature a square-ish display measuring between 6 and 7 inches, the A18 chip, and heavily tout Apple Intelligence support.

Kuo adds that the smart home device will be seen as a “strategic repositioning” of the HomePod lineup. Rather than being a smart speaker, the new product will reposition the HomePod as a smart home device with deep Apple Intelligence and HomeKit integration. Kuo expects Apple to ship around 500,000 units of the smart home display in 2025.
The device is one of several smart home hardware products Apple plans over the next few years. Other devices in consideration include a smart home security camera for 2026 and a $1,000 robotic tabletop device that could launch by 2027.
