Apple plans to significantly expand the adoption of OLED displays across several iPad and Mac models beginning in 2026 and beyond, according to a new research note from Omdia shared by leaker @Jukanlosreve on X.
Per the forecast, the iPad mini and the MacBook Pro could be the first devices to receive OLED panels by 2026. The new iPad mini will allegedly feature an 8.4-inch OLED display capped at 60Hz and featuring a single-stack layer. On the other hand, the OLED MacBook Pro’s display specs will mirror the iPad Pro, featuring a dual-stack design and ProMotion with no change in size. Omdia further claims that the MacBook Pro’s display will switch from a notch design to a hole cut to accommodate the camera and other sensors, much like the Dynamic Islan on the iPhone.
Omdia’s note states that the iPad Air should be the next device to receive an OLED display between 2026 and 2027. The proposed iPad Air upgrade will maintain the same 11-inch and 13-inch size options as today while being updated to a single-stack OLED display at 60Hz. The MacBook Air should also receive its OLED update between 2027 and 2028. Its display will be more familiar to the MacBook Pro thanks to ProMotion while maintaining a single-stack OLED layer.

Omdia adds that Apple’s first foldable device is set to launch before 2028. The device will allegedly be an iPad-MacBook hybrid, featuring an 18.8-inch folding display and ProMotion. Omdia’s timeline of the foldable device closely matches that of Ming-Chi Kuo, who said that Apple delayed the device beyond 2027 from an earlier 2026 launch following problems with its mechanical design.
