The Mac market share in the United States experienced double-digit growth during the third quarter of 2024, making Apple achieve the second-biggest shipments growth among top PC makers as the market continues its recover.
According to a new analysis shared by Canalys, Apple has sold over 2.8 million Mac units during Q3 2024, a 13 percent improvement over the same year-ago quarter. Apple’s growth was second only to Acer, which achieved a 15.6 percent increase during the same period. However, Apple’s shipments are more than double that of Acer, which only shipped 1.18 million PCs.
With these figures, Apple has cemented its place as the fourth largest PC vendor in the US. HP remains on top with 4.3 million shipped PCs. Overall, all major PC makers were able to achieve respectable growth with the exception of Dell, which saw its shipments shrink by 2.3 percent. All in all, PC shipments grew by 7 percent year-over-year to achieve 17.9 million units.

Most of the PC growth is attributed to businesses upgrading their devices to newer models that support Windows 11 as Microsoft is poised to end its Windows 10 support by October 2025. On the Mac side, strong sales can be credited to the release of the M3 MacBook Air lineup earlier this year and back-to-school promotions.
While Q3 2024 figures do not include sales from the new M4 Mac mini, iMac, and MacBook Pro, it’s safe to assume that Apple will continue to see impressive growth when Q4 2024 figures are released. Future products like the M4 MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro will help the company sustain its performance going into the new year.
