Apple has a number of notable hardware changes planned for the Apple Watch in 2025, including a new design for the SE and a new health sensor for Ultra 3 and Series 11, reports Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.
Writing for the weekly Power On newsletter, Gurman expects Apple to make significant hardware revisions for the Apple Watch in 2025, starting with a “new look” for the Apple Watch SE. While no specific details were shared regarding the new design, earlier reports indicated that the company is working on a plastic shell for its entry-level Watch model to achieve a lower price.
On the other hand, the Series 11 and Ultra 3 will likely stick with their current design. This is understandable as Apple just updated the Watch’s design with the Series 10 last year, while the Ultra will maintain its same look since its 2022 inception. More significant hardware revisions are still expected thanks to a new health sensor with high-blood pressure detection, a feature that Apple was forced to delay numerous times from previous Watch generations.

The Ultra 3 will gain a few exclusive features over the SE and Series 11 in the form of satellite connectivity and 5G support, a first for the Apple Watch. The company is working to bolster its satellite connectivity features as it continues to work with Globalstar in expanding its satellite fleet, something that could enable extra features for the Apple Watch down the line.
With these features, Apple hopes to spur demand for its premium Watch line, which was left with no upgrades last year. Apple Watch Series 10 debuted alongside the iPhone 16 in September, while the Ultra 2 was left unchanged, save for a new black titanium finish. Apple also aims to cut into the sales of devices like Garmin’s inReach, a small radio-like satellite communicator. Expanded wireless capabilities should also make the Apple Watch operate more independently from the iPhone.
Apple will unveil the updated Apple Watch lineup this September as usual alongside the iPhone 17 lineup.
