Apple today announced the latest iteration of watchOS, the operating system that it uses for the Apple Watch with a complete overhaul of the interface design. watchOS 10 now utilizes the entire screen to give users more information right on the Watch face with interactive widgets and Smart Stack.
The new change makes navigation much simpler with the Digital Crown, especially on the Apple Watch Ultra, which is specially designed to work in extreme temperatures, and underwater. The apps have been redesigned to take over more screen space so you can get more information, and interact with it more deeply.
watchOS 10 also updates the Cycling activity with new metrics and new view for iPhone. For cycling, you can see new metrics with compatible Bluetooth accessories and see cadence, speed, and power while cycling. Once you start the cycling activity on the Apple Watch, a Live Activity appears on the iPhone; which expands into an immersive view of the workout.

With the Health app, log your state of mind and see that data on the iPhone or iPad to see how it relates to other lifestyle factors like time spent in daylight, exercise, sleep, and mindfulness.
Apple is also bringing their ambient light sensor to keep an eye out for time spent in daylight, which is helpful in lowering the risk of Myopia or nearsightedness. Myopia is typically likely to occur in children, but spending time in daylight can reduce the risk of it. Parents can track their Time Spent in Daylight with Family Setup even if their children don’t have an iPhone.
Now you can enable custom workout plans in Apple Fitness+, share contact cards with Name Drop with another Apple Watch, view offline maps, view and hear recorded FaceTime voicemails, and get medication reminders with watchOS 10. watchOS is a mature operating system for a device that is ahead of its time. Apple has to solve challenges that have yet to come up with from a user perspective.
watchOS 10 developer beta is available for developers today and will launch in Fall. It is compatible with Apple Watches with Series 4 and later and requires iOS 17, which is supported by the iPhone XS and later.
