Apple is preparing to launch new products in October which are likely to be the first Mac models equipped with the next-generation M3 chip, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter.
The company recently announced a trio of new Macs last month including the 15-inch MacBook Air, refreshed Mac Studio, and Mac Pro with Apple silicon in addition to the new M2 Ultra chip that powers the latest high-end Mac desktop machines. According to Gurman, Apple is working on a launch event in October likely to announce the first Macs with the anticipated M3 chip.
Gurman doesn’t specify which M3-equipped Macs Apple will announce first. The 24-inch iMac has strongly been speculated to be one of the first Macs to receive the long-awaited chip, but Gurman hinted that a few other machines could receive the M3 chip fairly soon, including new MacBook Air models in addition to the entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Other Macs geared for professionals – including the MacBook Pro and the just-announced Mac Studio and Mac Pro – are not likely to receive an update come October, warns Gurman. The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro machines are instead expected to be refreshed early next year, with upgrades to high-end Mac desktops likely further down the road.
iPad Pro with M3 chip
Apple is also working to release an all-new iPad Pro with OLED displays and the M3 chip, but Gurman doesn’t expect the new tablets to launch in October. Instead, the new iPad Pro should launch sometime next year as the company seeks to follow its 18-month upgrade cycle for its premium iPad range. Gurman also reiterates that Apple is working on a refresh to the iPad Air, but a concrete launch date for the mid-range tablet remains unclear.
