Apple today officially announced the Apple Watch Series 9, the next generation of Apple Watch. The new Series 9 packs a new S9 processor, which Apple calls the fastest S-series processor yet. Other features include a brighter display, advanced sensors, and more.
Series 9 has been internally redesigned from the ground up and revolves around the new S9 chip. Apple says the new chip has 60% more transistors, and its CPU is 30% faster than the outgoing S8 processor. A new 4-core Neural Engine is on board for faster neural processing, twice as fast as before.
The new Neural Engine now enables Siri requests to be processed locally rather than in the cloud. Voice-to-text dictation is 25% more accurate than the Series 8, and Health requests via Siri can now be processed on-device. Apple Watch Series 9 retains the same 18-hour battery life.

Apple Watch Series 9 introduces a new control method called “Double Tap.” This new hand gesture involves tapping the thumb and index finger together, similar to how you would with a Vision Pro headset. With Double Tap, users can seamlessly interact with the device without needing to physically touch the screen.
Double Tap enables users to perform various tasks such as answering or ending calls, stopping timers, snoozing alarms, pausing or playing music, accessing the Smart Stack, and more. This feature relies on the Watch’s accelerometer and blood oxygen sensor, which detects subtle changes in movement and blood flow, allowing for a hands-free and intuitive user experience.
As predicted, Series 9 comes with the new U2 chip, enabling Precision Finding to locate a paired iPhone.
A brighter always-on Retina display heads to the Series 9, now up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness. The display can get extremely dim all the way to just 1 nit for better readability at night or in the dark.
Apple Watch Series 9 is available in a new pink finish option, alongside Starlight, Silver, Midnight, and PRODUCT(RED), while the stainless steel version is available in Gold, Graphite, and Silver.
This is a developing story…
