Apple earnings in the upcoming calendar quarter are expected to be better than previously thought due to the initial strong sales performance of the iPhone 15 lineup, according to reliable supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
In a new post on Medium, Kuo explains that Apple will “easily achieve” year-over-year iPhone revenue growth in the next Q4 quarter as early sales data show that the iPhone 15 is so far selling considerably better than the iPhone 14 a year ago during the same period. Kuo reiterates that the company will ship 80 million iPhone 15 units during the remainder of 2023, a welcomed improvement over the iPhone 14’s 76 million shipped units last year.
Kuo claims that Apple has ordered 35 million iPhone 15 Pro Max units, compared to 28 million units for the iPhone 14 Pro Max last year. Apple was forced to recently increase shipments of the premium 6.7-inch iPhone due to strong demand, with the model labeled as the “primary growth driver” for the iPhone business moving forward.

Apple is apparently also seeing stronger-than-expected demand for the iPhone 15 Plus, adds Kuo. The company could increase shipment orders for the iPhone 15 Plus as its demand is apparently better than how the iPhone 14 Plus fared last year, which is why initial orders were low.
On the other hand, sales for the base iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro have so far fallen below expectations, which could force Apple to cut future orders for these two models and instead shift production to the bigger iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Kuo also proposes the unlikely scenario of Apple lowering the prices of its 6.1-inch iPhone 15 offerings, but the move seems highly improbable given Apple’s traditional reluctance to offer big discounts on newly released products.
The iPhone 15 series is now available to order in the United States and over 40 countries around the world, with its availability set to expand to more worldwide regions in the upcoming weeks.
