Apple today released iOS 17.1 and iPadOS 17.1 to the public one week after seeding its Release Candidate on Tuesday, October 17. iOS 17.1 and iPadOS 17.1 also come nearly a month after Apple released iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 to the public.
Users who wish to download iOS 17.1 and iPadOS 17.1 can do so by navigating to Settings -> General -> Software Update on their iPhones and iPads. Apple also released the following software updates:
- watchOS 10.1
- macOS Sonoma 14.1
- tvOS 17.1
iOS 17.1 introduces a few enhancements for iPhone users, including the ability to mark favorite songs and albums on Apple Music. AirDrop transfers can now be finished over the internet when transferring devices are no longer in close proximity. Dynamic Island now also includes a flashlight indicator on all supported devices and is no longer limited to the iPhone 15 Pro.

iOS 17.1 also includes a fix for the iPhone 12’s elevated radiation levels as tested in France, which caused the country to threaten to halt and ban sales of the iPhone 12 domestically.
Unfortunately, iOS 17.1 does not include the long-awaited Journal app, where users can securely and privately record diary entries of life events accompanied by photos, music, audio recordings, and more. Last year, Apple released iOS 16.2 in December, and it’s likely that the company will follow through with that schedule by releasing iOS 17.2, fulfilling its promise of Journal making its way to iPhone users by this year’s end.
The new software update also includes a number of bug fixes including a widespread screen image retention issue that has plagued some iPhone 15 units, in addition to a Screen Time bug that caused settings to fail to sync properly across multiple devices.
