As part of its sweeping App Store policy changes today, Apple also confirmed that game streaming apps will be allowed on the App Store. The good news is that these changes apply to all iOS users around the world and will not be limited to iPhone or iPad users in the European Union.
The company announced the change through its Apple Developer portal. Apple confirms that “developers can now submit a single app with the capability to stream all of the games offered in their catalog.” This includes services and apps like Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce NOW, which were previously available to iOS users by navigating to them through a web browser like Safari.
Developers will gain the capability to offer improved discovery experiences for things like streaming games, mini-apps, mini-games, chatbots, and plugins embedded within a larger host app. Furthermore, mini-apps, mini-games, chatbots, and plugins will have the ability to integrate Apple’s native App Store In-App Purchase system, allowing them to provide paid digital content or services to users for the first time. This includes offerings like subscriptions for individual chatbots.

Apple says that every experience offered within an app on the App Store must individually comply with the App Store Review Guidelines, and the host app must maintain an age rating corresponding to the highest age-rated content that can be accessed through said host app.
The company is also opening the gates to a plethora of changes across its ecosystem, including opening up the iPhone’s NFC chip to Apple Pay rivals, setting up default non-Safari web browsers, and allowing non-WebKit browser engines.
