It should go without saying that this practice is illegal, with the police very likely to take action if they spot eager Vision Pro wearers behind the wheel. While there are no laws explicitly singling out VR headsets while driving, it’s probably treated the same as using a conventional mobile phone. Despite the first video proving to be nothing more than a prank, using Vision Pro in this manner could prove fatally dangerous in case of an accident no matter how good its video passthrough can be.

While it’s true that Vision Pro comes with a dedicated Travel Mode for use while in an airplane, it’s not meant to be used with other modes of transport like a car, much less behind the steering wheel. Apple also makes this explicit in a support document titled “Safely use your Apple Vision Pro,” which states that the headset should never be worn and used while driving.
Apple Vision Pro has built-in safety features to help prevent collisions and falls, but it’s also important to use the device in a safe manner. For example, don’t run while wearing Apple Vision Pro, use it while operating a moving vehicle, or use it while intoxicated or otherwise impaired.

Still, if you feel the urge to show off your shiny new Vision Pro, consider doing so without putting yourself and others in danger by wearing it in a safe location, perhaps a restaurant.
