The iOS 18 Messages app will finally allow users to schedule text messages to be sent at a specified date and time, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.
In a new report detailing what to expect from Apple at WWDC 2024, Gurman has shared additional details about what to expect from the iOS 18 Messages app. We earlier learned that Messages will add numerous new features thanks to AI and other changes, and now it seems that a major user-requested feature is in tow for the app as part of iOS 18.
In addition to scheduled texts, quick reactions and visual effects will play a major part in the new iOS 18 Messages app. It was earlier reported that new Tapback reactions will be added, and today’s report states that Tapback is set to support colorful reactions instead of the grey ones available today. Users will no longer be confined to the reactions that come preinstalled, as they will also be able to react with any emoji from the iPhone’s keyboard.

The Messages app is likely to be one of the biggest updates as part of iOS 18, with Apple planning bigger changes such as support for the RCS standard for richer texting with Android phones, an update the company confirmed last year. Generative AI will also play a big part in Messages, with features like missed text summarization, new text effects, smarter reply suggestions, and custom emojis on the fly.
