The standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will not gain ProMotion or always-on display capabilities like the iPhone 15 Pro and the so-called iPhone 15 Ultra are expected to have, according to a new rumor posted on the Korean blog Naver.
According to yeux1122, citing sources within Apple’s supply chain, the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone, 15 Plus models, will not gain support for a variable refresh of up to 120Hz or always-on display capabilities, first introduced this past September. The post says Apple has “completed preparations for the delivery” of iPhone 15 display panels, which coincides with a more recent leaked video purportedly showing front glass panels for the upcoming iPhones.
With ProMotion, the display can intelligently adapt its refresh rate to as low as 1Hz and as high as 120Hz depending on the user’s actions, such as whether they’re scrolling, watching a video, or playing a game. As the name suggests, the always-on display allows an iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max to keep its display always on to showcase a user’s wallpaper, time, widgets, and Live Activities without having to wake the phone up.

Reliable display analyst Ross Young shared in September that the lack of ProMotion for the entire iPhone 15 lineup results from the lack of production capacity to produce the more advanced displays at a mass scale.
Despite the lack of ProMotion or an always-on display, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are expected to gain Dynamic Island. Dynamic Island was first introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max and integrates software and hardware to show system alerts, notifications, and more within the top space of the iPhone’s display, previously occupied by the static notch. Dynamic Island is enabled thanks to hole-punch and pill-shaped cutouts directly within the OLED displays for the TrueDepth system and the front-facing camera.
Dynamic Island is one of the most iconic design changes in recent years for the iPhone, replacing the notch, which stayed the same until its shrinkage with the iPhone 13 Pro in 2021. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro are currently rumored to feature a USB-C port, solid-state volume buttons, and more.
