The M4 Mac mini, set to debut before the end of this year, will include significant changes to its wired connectivity options and ports, according to the latest Power On newsletter edition from Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.
Per the newsletter, Apple will eliminate the USB-A ports on the M4 Mac mini as part of overhauling the company’s smallest desktop machine. Instead, the new Mac mini will primarily rely on the USB-C standard with three ports on the M4 model and five ports on the M4 Pro version. Other standards, including HDMI, Ethernet, and the 3.5mm headphone jack, will remain unchanged.
The M4 Pro Mac mini will have two USB-C ports on the front of the device for the first time, much like the Mac Studio. The report also affirms that the machine’s power supply will remain internal, despite a significant design overhaul that would make the M4 Mac mini almost half the size of today’s model. The base M4 chip model is set to begin shipments from suppliers in early September, while the higher-end M4 Pro configuration won’t be shipping until closer to October.
