The Apple Watch Series 10 will feature new capabilities to detect sleep apnea and alert users, marking the latest addition to the device’s health management and tracking functions, according to a new report from Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.
The feature will reportedly be built on the existing sleep tracking feature, which measures different vitals and time spent in each sleep cycle. The new sleep apnea detection feature will suggest to users when they might have experienced sleep apnea, advising them to seek further medical assistance much like the irregular heart rhythm and atrial fibrillation detection feature.
New hardware on the Apple Watch Series 10 and the Ultra 3 will enable the sleep apnea feature, according to a separate report from 9to5Mac. This hardware includes an updated electrocardiogram (ECG) and heart rate sensor, which are more accurate than their predecessors. Additionally, 9to5Mac states that the algorithms responsible for processing health data from the Apple Watch sensors will receive an upgrade and will now be processed on the iPhone rather than the watch itself.

On the other hand, the Apple Watch Series 10 won’t include the long-rumored blood pressure sensor and high blood pressure detection features. Despite being extensively rumored for a release this year, Apple reportedly ran into accuracy and reliability issues when testing the feature, and as such it is no longer expected to be released on this year’s Watch models.
Apple will unveil the Apple Watch Series 10, Ultra 3, and a new SE model on Monday, September 9 during the “It’s Glowtime” event. Other products to be unveiled include the iPhone 16 lineup and the fourth-generation AirPods.
