Apple has unexpectedly shut down one of its stores in Charlotte, North Carolina, after multiple recent shooting incidents in the mall where the store was based, according to a report from Bloomberg.
The store’s employees were made aware of the sudden decision on Wednesday, March 1. The store was open for business as usual on Wednesday morning, and the store’s webpage on Apple’s site from Tuesday showed no indication of a foreseen closure.
Apple has later updated its website to reflect the news regarding its now-permanently shut down store. It is understood that recent shootings in Northlake Mall were responsible for the decision, adds the report.

Apple was already planning a relocation of its Charlotte store. The relocation is still expected to go ahead despite the unusual and quick closure of its Northlake Mall location. The new Charlotte store is set to open sometime early next year.
Apple has assured employees that no layoffs would take place, instead offering the shuttered store staff relocation to its nearby SouthPark store or roles at the company’s online store.
