Apple is still planning to launch an updated 27-inch external display with mini-LED technology. Mass production is set to start sometime in 2024 or early 2025, according to a new tweet from esteemed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Kuo anticipates the updated external monitor to include “all the features one would expect from a high-end monitor.” The monitor would presumably launch with ProMotion variable refresh rate technology and include Apple silicon processors akin to the A13 Bionic chip found on the current Studio Display.
Kuo adds that the monitor’s mini-LED technology would be built on a glass backplane instead of a PCB one, which is currently used in all of Apple’s current mini-LED offerings. The glass backplane would add many benefits to the new monitor, adds Kuo, which includes a thinner overall panel, narrower bezels, and increased product lifespan.

Kuo’s remarks directly contradict DSCC CEO Ross Young’s claims yesterday that Apple has apparently nixed its plans for an updated mini-LED 27-inch monitor “at least for now.”
