Apple is rumored to be working on a redesigned Magic Keyboard for the upcoming iPad Pro set to be released next year, and Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman is back with new details surrounding the iPad’s keyboard accessory.
In today’s edition of his Power On newsletter, Gurman claims that Apple is preparing a significant material change on the iPad Pro’s upcoming Magic Keyboard. For the first time ever, Apple will utilize aluminum as a building material for the keyboard accessory, bringing it more in line design-wise with MacBooks.
Apple will apparently limit the use of aluminum to just the area surrounding the actual keyboard keys, adds Gurman, meaning that the rest of the Magic Keyboard case will still be made of the current polyurethane material that is also used on most other iPad accessories. The use of aluminum will supposedly make the Magic Keyboard appear more premium with a Mac-like feel. Aluminum is also a more rugged material than polyurethane, making the Magic Keyboard less likely to bend and tear.

Other details surrounding the upcoming Magic Keyboard include a bigger trackpad as reported last week, as well as the inclusion of just one USB-C port embedded in the Magic Keyboard’s hinge. The material change could also allow Apple to justify a price increase, adds Gurman, as the company could elect to charge more than the current $300 introductory price tag.
The reported Magic Keyboard is set to be revealed next year alongside a redesigned iPad Pro coupled with the rumored M3 chip and OLED display for the first time ever on an iPad.
