Apple today began releasing the first beta for iOS 17.1 to registered developers. iOS 17.1 beta 1 comes more than a week after the public release of iOS 17, complete with new features like StandBy and improvements to Phone and FaceTime. A public version of this beta is expected sometime this week.
Apple could release previously announced features with iOS 17.1 that were absent from iOS 17.0. One of these headlining features is the new Journal app for logging daily activities, which Apple previously stated will be included with a future iOS 17 update later this year, presumably as part of iOS 17.1 or iOS 17.2. Other features include collaborative playlists on Apple Music, AirDrop transfers over the Internet, and additional features across the board.

How to install iOS 17.1 beta 1
Last March, Apple introduced a new method to install betas. Now, devices enrolled with a linked Apple Developer Program account or those who signed up with their Apple ID on Apple Developer will see a new menu under Settings -> General -> Software Update that allows users to opt into receiving beta updates. Devices that aren’t enrolled and linked to an Apple Developer account won’t see the menu and therefore aren’t able to install any new beta.
