The OLED MacBook will measure 13.4-inches, slightly smaller than the current 13-inch models

Quick Hits
  • No other major display changes are expected for the Mac until at least 2026
  • For 2023, Apple is expected to announce a 15-inch MacBook Air sometime in the middle of the year
  • Apple is seemingly being indecisive on its OLED MacBook Air plans for next year

Apple could be planning on announcing an updated MacBook Air with a 13.4-inch OLED display in 2024, according to reliable display analyst Ross Young. On Twitter, Young says that Apple is seemingly being indecisive regarding its OLED plans for next year. “13.4” OLED MacBook Air/MacBook is in and out of the plan,” Young says. The updated MacBook is “currently in” with a launch set for sometime next year.

Young added that Apple has no other major display plans for the Mac lineup until at least 2026. In 2026, rumors suggest an updated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with OLED displays will see their debut. The three-year wait for the more advanced displays in the highest-end MacBooks is due to new fabs required for the production of the displays.

In the more immediate future, Apple is expected to announce an updated MacBook Air with a larger 15-inch display sometime this year. This past weekend, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said Apple is looking to announce the new MacBook Air, alongside the first Mac Pro with Apple silicon, towards the middle of this year.

Apple announced the M2 chip alongside a redesigned MacBook Air and updated 13-inch MacBook Pro during WWDC last year. Apple has occasionally used WWDC to showcase new hardware product announcements; however, the conference’s premise remains heavily software and developer-focused.

If any hardware announcement is expected at this year’s conference, taking place from June 5 to June 9, it will likely be the company’s AR/VR headset. “Reality Pro,” as it’s rumored to be called, will be Cupertino’s first major push into the virtual reality headset space. The headset is expected to be one of the most advanced on the market, featuring 4K micro-LED displays, hand and eye-tracking capabilities, an external battery pack, and more.
