Apple is planning to introduce its Health app on the iPad for the first time ever with iPadOS 17. The company is also planning to add an emotion tracker and a tool to manage eyesight conditions in iOS 17. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman detailed the features in a new article.
According to Gurman, iPadOS 17 will feature the Health app, allowing users to view their health data in a “larger format” on the iPad’s bigger, more immersive display. Apple hopes that this move will further popularize its Health app, as the device is extensively used by healthcare providers, adds the article. The new features and app are set to be unveiled at WWDC.
In the nearer term, Apple plans to roll out an iPad version of the iPhone health app for the first time. The change, which will allow users to see electrocardiogram results and other health data in a larger format, is planned to be included as part of iPadOS 17 later this year.

Apple is also planning an emotion tracker and a tool to manage eyesight conditions for iOS 17 Health app, adds the article. The emotion tracker will allow users to manually “log their mood, answer questions about their day, and compare the results over time.”
The feature will later be expanded to automatically establish the user’s mood via algorithms, adds the article. The future algorithms will analyze the user’s speech, patterns of typing, and other data to better judge their mood.
The tools for tracking emotion and managing vision conditions, such as nearsightedness, will be added to the health app this year. The initial version of the emotion tracker will let users log their mood, answer questions about their day and compare the results over time. But in the future, Apple is hoping the iPhone could use algorithms to determine a user’s mood via their speech, what words they’ve typed and other data on their devices.

The article adds that the new planned features are independent of the new journaling app that was covered last week. The journaling app is unlikely to be marketed as a health feature. Instead, it is an “extension of the company’s Find My service”, notes the article. Apple’s goal with the new app is to add more social networking capabilities for its users, allowing them to share daily activities with friends and family.
The new features will debut as part of iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 in WWDC. The new software releases will be accompanied by new versions of tvOS, macOS, and watchOS. Be sure to check out Supercharged‘s recap of everything expected to be unveiled at the event.
