Apple’s “Reality Pro” AR/VR headset is now said to be in the final stages of mass assembly and production. The development is reported by Economic Daily News, quoting supply chain insiders.
The report explains that GIS, a Foxconn subsidiary, is now included in the supply chain. GIS will be responsible for the lens lamination step, one of the last stages in the headset’s assembly process. GIS presence in the supply chain strongly indicates that Foxconn will be one of the main assemblers for the second generation of the headset, expected to succeed its predecessor in 2025.
GIS openly stated that it would enter the metaverse market this year, shipping to its customers in the second quarter of 2023. GIS is said to have established a lens lamination production line solely dedicated to Apple’s headset in Chengdu, China. After its process is completed, the fitted lens will be shipped to Luxshare for final assembly, adds the article.

It was initially thought that no suppliers associated with Foxconn would participate in the headset’s supply chain. However, GIS has been in charge of a similar lens lamination process in the iPad for a long time, boasting high yield rates. As such, GIS was picked by Apple, becoming the only subsidiary of Foxconn so far to be involved in the headset assembly.
Apple is widely expected to unveil its hotly anticipated “Reality Pro” headset at WWDC in June. The company will also announce “xrOS,” the headset’s software platform, which is said to run 3D iPad-based apps.
