OpenAI has announced the release of an official ChatGPT app on iOS in the United States. The app is available on the App Store today, with an Android app coming soon.
Available for free, the ChatGPT app offers synchronization of chat history across multiple devices. It incorporates Whisper, an open-source speech recognition system that enables voice input. Additionally, ChatGPT Plus subscribers on iOS gain access to GPT-4 in addition to exclusive features, early access to updates, and faster response times. Users will be able to purchase ChatGPT Plus subscriptions as an in-app purchase for $19.99/mo.
Last month, OpenAI posted job openings to hire iOS and Android engineers. The openings sparked rumors that the company was working on official ChatGPT apps for iOS and Android. The openings – which have now been taken down – strongly suggested that OpenAI was to release an Android app before iOS, which no longer seems to be the case.
