  • Apple Music Classical launched on iPhone in March at no additional price for Apple Music subscribers
  • Windows 11 users can now enjoy the app thanks to Windows' ability to run Android apps
  • The app is designed specifically for classical music, with a custom design and metadata

Apple this week released an Apple Music Classical app for Android, months after its initial release on iPhone, but still not before releasing it on the iPad and Mac. As pointed out by MacGeneration, the release of the app on Android means that Windows users have access to Apple’s latest music app before Mac customers.

Similar to how Apple silicon Macs and macOS can run certain iOS and iPadOS apps on the Mac, Windows 11 allows certain Android apps to run on laptops and computers with ARM chips. With the release of Apple Music Classical for Android, Windows 11 users can now experience and use the standalone app on Windows before Mac and iPad users get access to the app themselves.

Windows 11 users can only download Android apps from the Amazon App Store, not Google’s Play Store. As noted by MacGeneration, Apple only disturbutes the app on the Play Store. To use the Apple Music Classical app on Windows 11, users will need to download and install the app files directly. The app is sized and formatted as a mobile app, but fully functional on Windows machines with ARM chips.

Apple has not commented on a Mac and iPad app and it’s unclear if there are any plans to bring it the iPad and Mac. When the app launched in March, Apple said an Android version would be coming soon, but the company didn’t mention either the iPad or Mac in any of its press or marketing material.

The Apple Music app itself has access to classical music, but the standalone Apple Music Classical app offers a refined experience and organizational structure tailored specifically for classical music. The app gives “classical music lovers the editorial and catalog content they’ve been missing,” according to Apple. Apple Music Classical is available to Apple Music subscribers at no additional cost.
