Early benchmarks for Apple’s newly-announced M2 Ultra chip are making their way to Geekbench 6 nearly a week after the WWDC 2023 keynote. The purported results closely align with the performance gains touted by Apple in its presentation, proclaiming the M2 Ultra as the fastest Apple silicon chip yet.
The purported benchmarks belong to a Mac Studio with model identifier “Mac14,14” running a 24-core CPU on macOS 13.4. The new chip obtained an average single-core score of 2800 and a multi-core score of nearly 21700. This represents a formidable gain of 22% and 24% in single-core and multi-core results over the M1 Ultra, respectively, which averages a single-core score of 2300 and a multi-core score of 17500.
The performance gains closely align with Apple’s claimed numbers, with the company claiming that the M2 Ultra is up to 20% faster than its M1 Ultra predecessor. The benchmark results also revealed other tidbits about the new chip, including a roughly 3.7 GHz base frequency and the same 4MB of L2 cache.
