The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are expected to introduce the new A17 Bionic chip when they are revealed to the public next month, and a new rumor claims to have obtained specifications concerning the next-gen Apple chip.
According to @URedditor on Twitter, the A17 chip carries the codename T8130, and will likely be available in a 6-core CPU and 6-core GPU configuration. Like prior A-series chips, the CPU will likely constitute two high-performance and four high-efficiency cores. On the other hand, the GPU gains an extra core compared to the A16 chip which will likely in a significant boost to graphics performance.
The CPU on the A17 chip will be able to run at a faster maximum clock speed of 3.7 GHz, compared to the A16’s 3.46 GHz. Other specs allegedly include 6GB of RAM at LPDDR5 speeds, which directly contradicts wider industry expectations of 8GB of RAM for the first time ever on any iPhone. As expected, the A17 chip will be the first Apple silicon to be fabricated on a 3nm process by TSMC, helping the iPhone maintain its technological edge over its Android competitors.

@URedditor reiterates rumors of the A17 chip being exclusive to the higher-end iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, whereas the base iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will inherit last year’s A16 Bionic chip. The leaker also revealed that the iPhone 16’s chip, dubbed the A18, is under active development and carries the codename T8140.
iPhone 15 Specs
More and more details about the iPhone 15 lineup are making their way to the public as they could be unveiled in as little as a month’s time. The base iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are expected to receive Dynamic Island, first introduced on the iPhone 14 Pro last year. The company is also rumored to replace the Lightning port with USB-C across the entire lineup to comply with EU laws, in addition to expanding the 48MP main camera sensor to the non-Pro iPhone 15 models alongside other camera improvements.
On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will introduce several exclusive features, including a periscope zoom lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, significantly thinner bezels thanks to a new LIPO process, a new titanium chassis with subtly curved edges to replace stainless steel, Action Button in lieu of the mute switch, and the next-generation 3nm A17 Bionic chip.
