Alongside today’s release of the Apple Pencil with USB-C, Apple has seemingly issued a minor update to the existing 10th-generation iPad. The company says that the cellular version of this iPad now supports eSIM in China and will go on sale later this month (via MacRumors).
The updated iPad is still labeled as the 10th-generation model and represents the first and only Apple device to support eSIM in China. Dual-SIM iPhone and iPad devices are sold in China, but both SIMs are physical with a dual nano-SIM compartment.
Apple also issued a new support document specifically for the updated iPad which includes instructions on how to set up and activate eSIM data plans on the device. The new eSIM-ready cellular iPad carries model number A3162 and is supported exclusively by the China Unicom carrier.
Apple states pre-orders for the updated cellular iPad will kick off in mainland China on Thursday, October 19 with a market release on Wednesday, October 25.
