Apple will reportedly unveil as many as three new Mac chips based on the M3 come Monday at its “Scary fast” event, reads a new Bloomberg article.
In the latest edition of the weekly Power On newsletter, it is said that the company is ready to take wraps off its next generation of Apple silicon, including the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max. As widely expected, the new chips will be built on the 3-nanometer node process, just like the A17 Pro powering the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The article reaffirms that Apple will unveil a long-awaited refresh to the 24-inch iMac with the M3 as well as updates to the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, with the latter being equipped with the M3 Pro and M3 Max chips.

Reality Check
An earlier Bloomberg report stated that Apple was working to release four updated MacBooks by mid-2024. Apple might have brought its plans forward with the MacBook Pro, whereas refreshes to the MacBook Air are still expected to be released next year.
The article further states some of the configurations that Apple internally tested for all of its three M3-based chips. Overall, the new chips are said to be a “considerable leap” over the current M2 family, resulting in significant improvements to performance, efficiency, and battery life.
The configurations that appear to have been under testing are described below:
CPU | GPU | |
M3 | 8-core CPU with four high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores | Up to 10-core |
M3 Pro | 12-core (six high-performance and six high-efficiency cores) and 14-core | 18-core and 20-core |
M3 Max | 16-core (12 high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores) | 32-core and 40-core |
Unified memory configurations are also likely to see an increase, with previous reports describing Apple as testing new 36GB and 48GB RAM options.
