Apple Vision Pro pre-orders in the United States kicked off last Friday, and trusted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is back with his expectations on how the headset fared after its first weekend of pre-ordering availability.

In a new Medium post, Kuo says that Apple is likely to have sold between 160,000 and 180,000 Vision Pro units so far in less than three days. The headset’s initial stock of between 60,000 and 80,000 units sold out quickly as earlier predicted, with shipping times for most configurations now slipping into March. However, shipping times have since remained unchanged after the first 48 hours of availability, signaling that early demand might already be declining.

Apple should easily be able to meet its target of 500,000 Vision Pro units sold in 2024 thanks to international availability before WWDC 2024, Kuo adds. Luxshare, Vision Pro’s main assembler, is reportedly working overtime to meet demand and make up for poor production yield due to the headset’s delicate manufacturing nature. Nevertheless, Apple will have to keep a close eye on Vision Pro’s demand as it could fluctuate very easily.

While the headset’s pre-ordering figure might seem promising compared to similar VR products on the market, it still only represents about 0.007% of Apple’s 1.2 billion worldwide customer base. Vision Pro is understandably a very niche product for the company, and that is unlikely to change for years down the line.

Vision Pro can now be pre-ordered in the United States. Shipments of Apple’s first spatial computer should reach the hands of customers beginning on Friday, February 2. Customers will also be able to buy the headset from all Apple Store retail locations in the US from that date.
