A new image depicting dummy units of the iPhone 16 lineup showcases what to expect of Apple’s upcoming iPhone generation, including the new larger sizes of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The image, shared by Sonny Dickson on X, also reveals the new camera housing design of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.

Apple is set to increase the size of the Pro iPhone for the first time since the iPhone 12 in 2020. As reported before, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will see their display sizes increase to 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches respectively, and the dummy units depict both devices as being slightly taller than their non-Pro iPhone counterparts that will stick with 6.1-inch and 6.5-inch panels.

The dummy units also showcase the redesigned camera bump and housing on the base iPhone 16 models. The camera housing is expected to be pill-shaped with the LED flash residing outside the housing and flush with the rest of the phone. Apple will also rearrange the dual camera lens system to sit vertically instead of diagonally, a design trend the company started with the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini.

The rumored camera bump would also be similar to the iPhone X and iPhone XS, which featured a main and telephoto cameras with the LED flash sandwiched between them. The iPhone 16’s camera housing would still be more sophisticated as it features a further separate elevation for each camera lens, which Apple has maintained since the iPhone 11 series.

The reason for this design change remains unclear, but it could be purely for aesthetic purposes and to set the new iPhone models apart from the previous generations. The vertical camera arrangement could also be necessary for Spatial Video capture, something that is only possible today with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Another important design change heading to the iPhone 16 is a new Capture button, which will sit beneath the Side button and is present on all models. While the Capture button is not shown in today’s dummy units, it’s rumored to be primarily used to control certain camera settings, including zoom levels, readjusting focus, and triggering the shutter.
