Sales of the iPhone 15 lineup are reportedly achieving a smaller share of total iPhone sales this quarter compared to how the iPhone 14 lineup was faring in the same period last year, according to the latest research from the Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP).
The latest data indicates that all four models of the iPhone 15 lineup collectively represented 67 percent of total iPhone sales in Q2 2024. This is a lower figure than the iPhone 14 lineup achieved last year, with its sales share representing 79 percent of total iPhones sold in Q2 2023.
On a model-by-model basis, sales of every iPhone 15 device were lower than its direct iPhone 14 predecessor. However, the iPhone 15 Pro Max was the only exception, with it and the iPhone 14 Pro Max accounting for 22 percent of total sales each during the second quarter of 2023 and 2024 respectively.

Older iPhone models are making up for the slump in sales share of the iPhone 15 lineup. During Q2 2024, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus made up 17 percent of total iPhone sales, compared to just 11 percent for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini in Q2 2023.
Figures are even more showing for two-year-old models. Last year, the two-year-old models had minimal impact, with the iPhone 12 making up just four percent of sales. However, in Q2 2024, the two-year-old iPhone 13 captured a 10 percent share.
Reports of overwhelming shares for the iPhone 15 lineup are not new, which were particularly highlighted in markets like China where Apple had to offer unusual price cuts to attract customers to upgrade to the latest iPhone generation. Whether this trend continues with the upcoming iPhone 16 remains to be seen, but Apple Intelligence could entice more customers to upgrade for exclusive AI features.
