Apple will soon begin offering unusual discounts on the iPhone 15 lineup in China ahead of the Lunar New Year. The price cuts are described as unusual since the company doesn’t usually offer discounts for its latest iPhone lineup this soon after launch amid fears of slow sales in the country.

The company’s promotion as seen on its website will see customers in China enjoy discounts of up to 500 yuan ($70) including top-of-the-line iPhone 15 Pro Max, with the price cut representing around 5% of the device’s price. The promotion will run from January 18 to January 21 and will span other products including older iPhone generations, Macs, AirPods, iPads, and Apple Watch models.

The unorthodox offers come as Apple is said to be dealing with lower sales than anticipated for the iPhone 15 lineup in China as competition with Huawei and others surges. The Chinese giant released its latest Mate 60 lineup to much fanfare in the country amid a patriotic rush and US-led sanctions against semiconductor supplies.

The sales performance of the iPhone 15 appears to be 4.5% worse compared to its predecessor over the first 17 days that both lineups were first made available in the market, according to earlier analysis. Another research painted an even gloomier picture for Apple as they predict an even sharper double-digit sales decline for the iPhone 15 that could continue well into 2024.

Apple will hold its next earnings call for Q1 2024 on Thursday, February 1, at 2:00 p.m. PT with all eyes set on the iPhone’s performance. The fiscal results should give us a good idea of how the iPhone 15 lineup fared sales-wise during its first complete quarter of availability.
