Apple released the second iOS 18.1 beta to registered developers today. iOS 18.1 enables the first crop of Apple Intelligence features after being scrapped from iOS 18 and a September release. Apple also released the second beta for iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1.
Developers can now begin testing some Apple Intelligence features after downloading the iOS 18.1 beta and signing up for a waitlist, with access usually guaranteed within minutes. Apple Intelligence features currently available to test include Writing Tools, a new Focus mode, Smart Reply, and text summarization in apps like Mail, Safari, and notifications.
Some Apple Intelligence features, like an all-new Siri, are still scheduled to be released by early 2025. Nevertheless, it will take Apple several updates to iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, spanning late 2024 and the first half of 2025, to fully launch the complete set of AI features announced during WWDC 2024.

How to install iOS 18.1 beta 2
Last year, Apple introduced a new method to install betas. Now, devices enrolled with a linked Apple Developer Program account or those who signed up with their Apple ID on Apple Developer will see a new menu under Settings -> General -> Software Update that allows users to opt into receiving beta updates. Devices that aren’t enrolled and linked to an Apple Developer account won’t see the menu and therefore aren’t able to install any new beta.
We will keep this article updated with any additional changes that we find in iOS 18.1 beta 2 beyond Apple Intelligence, including references to new features or unreleased products.
