The first iOS 17 developer beta has been available for just over a day, and quality-of-life improvements that Apple briefly mentioned or didn’t discuss on stage altogether are slowly being discovered. Supercharged highlighted some tidbits earlier today, and we’re back to share even more with all of you.
Apple has greatly upgraded the Spotlight search experience on iPhone with iOS 17. Below, we highlight some of the new changes and additions discovered so far on the first iOS 17 beta.
System settings inline toggles
When searching for system settings, an inline toggle is visible to quickly turn a settings option on or off from within Spotlight itself. Inline toggles in Top Hit also get a more prominent design. For example, searching for “wifi” displays a Top Hit result with an inline toggle to switch WiFi on or off.

App shortcuts in Top Hit

For example, the Clock app gets a new shortcuts panel that allows users to set an alarm or start a timer directly from Spotlight.
Other tidbits
iOS 17 is full of smaller enhancements across the board. Here are a few that’s been discovered so far:
- Focus gains a new option to choose when notifications are silenced either all the time or only when an iPhone is locked. Notifications can now go through when an iPhone is unlocked even when a focus mode is on.
- Dynamic Island gets a new popup design for Shazam music recognition when invoked from Control Center.
- CarPlay gets a minor design update with a flashy palette of colors for higher contrast and better legibility.
- AirPods beta software now has the option to be installed without going through Xcode.
- AirPlay indicator gets a new more prominent design in Control Center’s Now Playing.
- Custom stickers are now part of the keyboard’s emoji suggestions.
