iPhone 15 production should be underway as Apple has scheduled its upcoming announcement event for September 12, and a new Medium post shared by reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo outlines recent mass production developments and issues related to the upcoming iPhones.
According to Kuo, multiple issues were plaguing iPhone 15 mass production including the new triple-stacked camera sensor, display panels, batteries, and titanium chassis on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple was apparently able to partially improve the camera sensor problems by increasing production capacity. However, yields are still 10-15% lower than required for the base iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
Display panel production issues were previously reported to be affecting the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max the hardest, and Kuo is echoing these problems today. Apple is said to have solved this issue by “changing the supplier shipment ratio,” presumably meaning handing over more display orders to Samsung rather than LG as the latter was reported to have been struggling with the novel LIPO display production technology.

The new titanium chassis is proving to be a headache for Apple and its suppliers, with Kuo reporting that it underwent “significant design changes during development,” resulting in the cancelation of the planned solid-state volume and power buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, now believed to use traditional mechanical buttons as all other iPhones. Nevertheless, the titanium frame will still go ahead as planned, with Kuo adding that the new material will “contribute to weight reduction” compared to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Kuo further reiterates mass production delays pertaining to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, with the 6.7-inch premium iPhone production said to be “the last to kick off” of the four iPhone 15 models. The analyst earlier reported that unit shipments for this iPhone will commence sometime this week, presumably implying that shipments for the three other iPhone 15 models began a while ago.
Finally, Kuo is doubling down on the expected colors to be offered on all iPhone 15 models. These include black, pink, yellow, blue, and green for the base iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, and white, black, blue, and grey for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
