Apple’s next-generation AirTag, which was earlier rumored to enter mass production in Q4 2024, may not begin until 2025, according to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
AirTags has seen steady growth in shipments since its launch in 2021, notes Kuo. He also estimates that Apple shipped around 20 million units in 2021 and 35 million units in 2022. These strong numbers likely motivated the company to begin developing the rumored upgraded model. The reported growth is likely due to the AirTag’s affordability, ease of use, and integration with other Apple products.
In the meantime, no specific details have been reported regarding what improvements to expect out of upgraded AirTags, but they could focus on more security features as Apple is going through a class-action lawsuit accusing them of negligence and privacy violations.
