Users who are switching from Android phones to iOS have reached the highest percentage recorded in the last five years in the United States, according to new research by CIRP (via 9to5Mac).
The research, which analyzed data from the last nine years, indicated that as much as 15% of iPhone buyers between March 2022 and March 2023 in the US owned an Android phone prior to their iPhone purchase. CIRP adds that 83% of iPhone buyers in the same period owned an older iPhone, highlighting the appeal of Apple devices.
The proportion of Android switchers has been steadily increasing since 2020, when 10% of iPhone buyers previously owned an Android. CIRP data suggests that the 15% rate was last observed in 2018. The highest rate of switchers over the nine-year period was back in 2016 when it reached 21% of all iPhone sales in the US.

iPhone buyers seem unwithered by the tumultuous state of the global economy. CIRP previously suggested that the average iPhone selling price in the US reached an all-time March quarter high of $988. The high ASP contributed to Apple’s better-than-expected Q2 2023 fiscal results, where the company posted a record March quarter iPhone revenue of $51.3 billion.
The iPhone’s extensive lineup includes multiple models with a wide range of prices and features ranging from the $429 third-generation iPhone SE all the way to the $1,099 iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apart from the iPhone’s appeal, users can also rest assured that their old iPhones’ resell value allows them to recoup much of what they originally paid and even put that towards a new iPhone.
