The company will also accept trade-ins for the Mac Studio

Apple is set to start accepting trade-ins of the latest MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro models with the M2 chip in addition to the Mac Studio on the inaugural day of WWDC 2023. The development is reported by Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman and potentially signifies the imminent release of new Macs.

Gurman broke the news in a tweet sent earlier today. The Mac Studio currently does not appear on Apple’s trade-in website, whereas MacBook Air and entry-level MacBook Pro trade-ins are presumably limited to the older models equipped with the M1 chip. According to Gurman, Apple will accept trade-ins of the Macs mentioned above on June 5, the first day of WWDC, which could signify that the company is preparing to launch new Macs during its presentation.

Unreleased Macs have been heavily rumored and spotted in developer logs and even Apple’s own configuration files. Apple is widely expected to release an all-new 15-inch MacBook Air albeit with the current M2 chip instead of the newer M3 chip. The company is said to be preparing new iMac, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro models with the M3 chip, but these are more likely to be revealed towards the end of the year.

Gurman stated earlier that at least two new Mac Studio models are being tested but are unlikely to be released anytime soon. Apple has yet to release an Apple silicon-equipped Mac Pro, which would signify the transition’s completion of its own custom processors nearly three years after it embarked on the transition in late 2020.

WWDC 2023 is around a week away, with the keynote being held at 10 a.m. PDT on Monday, June 5. Apple is expected to unveil its long-waited mixed-reality headset and accompanying “xrOS” software platform. The company will also unveil new major releases for iOS, macOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and tvOS, alongside new Macs.
