Apple is said to be readying a new Mac desktop carrying the codename “J475” likely to be a new Mac Studio, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.
In a new tweet shared today, Gurman states that Apple is preparing to introduce a new Mac codenamed “J475” which could be revealed as soon as WWDC 2023 in a few days. Gurman notes that the current Mac Studio announced in March 2022 carries the codename “J375”, suggesting that the yet-to-be-announced machine is related to the high-end desktop and likely offers an incremental update in the form of new M2-based chips.
Gurman also noted that certain higher-end configurations of the Mac Studio are facing shipping and pickup delays through Apple’s online store. The Mac Studio configuration shown in Gurman’s tweet is powered by the M1 Ultra chip and features an optional 64-core GPU upgrade. The mentioned configuration is stated to ship on June 16 at the earliest and is available for pickup no earlier than June 23.
Gurman earlier reported that Apple is testing Mac desktops with model identifiers “Mac14,13” and “Mac14,14”, which are thought to be two configurations of a new Mac Studio powered by the M2 Max and a new M2 Ultra chips. Apple also plans to start accepting trade-ins of the current Mac Studio models with the M1 Max and M1 Ultra chips in addition to the 13-inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with M2 on the same day as WWDC 2023, strongly suggesting that an updated Mac Studio and a new 15-inch MacBook Air could launch imminently.
