Apple has revealed an all-new, fully redesigned Phone App for iOS 17 during its WWDC Keynote, with features that extend into Contacts and third-party VOIP apps.

Contact Posters bring a new way for users to express themselves and add an entirely new look to incoming calls. The Contact Posters are built similarly to the custom lock screens that Apple introduced in iOS 16 last year, allowing the user to choose a full-screen photograph or Memoji for the contact and add bold typography and a choice of fonts for the contact’s name. Contact posters will also be visible in the Contacts App and third-party VOIP calling apps.

Apple also introduced Live Voicemail, using the neural engine on-device to transcribe voicemail messages in real-time as the caller speaks their message, maintaining privacy. The user receiving the call can then accept it if they choose based on the message being left. If the number is a known spam caller identified by the carrier, it will be declined automatically without Live Voicemail activating.

iOS 17 is available for registered developers to download today at developer.apple.com and is expected to be released to the public alongside the iPhone 15 lineup in September.
