In addition to releasing the visionOS SDK for developers today, Apple also released the first-ever beta for the operating system powering the Vision Pro headset. Developers can now download visionOS 1.0 beta 1 and even run a Vision Pro simulator on the newly-released Xcode 15 beta 2.
The new SDK provides a thorough overview of visionOS, revealing more details about the new software platform that Apple didn’t discuss on stage during the WWDC 2023 keynote and subsequent developer sessions. On Twitter, @aaronp613 was able to extract a list of all the first-party Apple apps that come preloaded as part of visionOS 1.0, revealing more apps than what the company initially showcased when unveiling Vision Pro.
Many of the included apps in the list are likely to be internal software services that non-developer users won’t be able to access when they get their hands on Vision Pro. It’s possible that Apple could add more default apps with subsequent visionOS betas, as the headset is not scheduled to go on sale for at least seven more months, targeting an early 2024 release date.
