The retail store at Apple’s former headquarters on One Infinite Loop will close its doors forever on January 20, company officials confirmed Thursday to MacRumors.

The location is part of the Apple Campus building, which was built in 1993. The store opened as The Company Store in the same year, nearly a decade before the first proper Apple Store in Tysons Corner, Virginia.

The store has served as the only publicly accessible part of the campus, which was used for research and development until Steve Jobs’ return to the company in 1997. For that reason, the store initially focused on selling Apple souvenirs and merchandise to Apple enthusiasts who traveled to visit the headquarters.

The store closed for renovations in June 2015 and reopened as a proper Apple Store in September of that same year. The store began selling iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch devices alongside a selection of apparel and accessories. The smaller store, however, did not offer Genius Bar services or any informational sessions like “Today at Apple.”

The store has lost its luster as a tourist destination in recent years as the company relocated to the more modern Apple Park, also called “Apple Campus 2,” in 2017. Alongside an Apple Store with a new collection of merchandise, the Apple Park Visitor Center offers even more to see for visitors, including a publicly accessible Caffè Macs cafe, a 3D model of Apple Park enhanced with augmented reality experiences, and a roof terrace with views of the main building.

“After many years of serving customers at our stores in the Bay Area, we plan to close our store at Infinite Loop,” an Apple spokesperson said in a statement to MacRumors. “All of our valued team members will have the opportunity to continue their roles with Apple.”

Sources said the opportunities offered to those team members include similar roles at other stores, including Apple Park Visitor Center and Apple Valley Fair.

As for the rest of Apple Campus, the offices will continue to be used by corporate employees for the time being. The main atrium is currently closed for construction; according to signage posted outside, it will not reopen until early 2024.

Apple company representative direct customers to the Apple Park Visitor Center, Apple.com, and the Apple Store app for continued service.

Despite the closure, Apple said its is committed to expanding its retail presence as it has this year. The company opened its first retail store in India in April, with the second store, located in the capital of New Delhi, following shortly after. The stores quickly skyrocketed to being among the top 10 Apple retail stores globally. The company also held a grand reopening for the first store in Tysons Corner after renovations completed in May.

The Infinite Loop Apple Store will forever be immortalized the way it was when it opened in The Apple Store Time Machine, a free app created by Michael Steeber.
