The displays for 2024 Pro iPhones could also grow taller thanks to a bigger aspect ratio

Quick Hits
  • iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max to feature 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays
  • The new displays will feature an aspect ratio larger than the current 19.5:9
  • No display changes expected for base iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus

The iPhone 15 lineup is about four months away, yet the rumor mill is already picking up steam for next year’s iPhone 16. Apple reportedly plans to include larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays for its iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, respectively, according to esteemed analyst and DSCC CEO Ross Young.

Young tweeted that the 2024 lineup of Pro iPhones will feature an incremental display size increase. More specifically, the new displays will presumably measure in at least 6.25 and 6.85 inches, which will then be rounded up to 6.3 and 6.9 inches. Young claims he will reveal exact display panel dimensions to two decimal places soon.

In subsequent tweets, Young claims that in addition to larger displays, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will also come in slightly larger aspect ratios. However, Ross did not divulge additional details regarding the new ratio, which could presumably approach the more standard 21:9 widescreen aspect ratio. All full-screen iPhone models, including the most recent 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, feature displays with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

Young did not indicate if the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus would receive any display changes. The iPhone 15 lineup, designated to be unveiled later this year, is not expected to feature any display size changes.

Young claimed in March that plans for an under-display Face ID system for the iPhone 16 Pro has been pushed back to 2025, presumably for the iPhone “17 Pro”. Rumors for next year’s iPhone are already picking up steam, as Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman earlier reported that solid-state buttons would debut on the iPhone 16 Pro in 2024 instead of this year’s iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.

Apple seems to be gearing up for major display improvements across all its product lineups in the next two years. The company reportedly plans to debut its first-ever iPad Pro and MacBook Air models with OLED displays sometime in 2024. The Apple Watch could also debut with a high-end microLED display between 2024 and 2025.
